FAQ: FAQ

We understand organising any event is highly stressful, and we’re here to make this experience as stress-free as possible! We have experience performing at all types of events and will make sure we are fully prepared to perform at your event, and you know exactly what to expect on the day. Many of your questions will hopefully be answered below but feel free to contact us if you can’t find the answer.

What is the process for booking the band?

If you would like a no obligation quote from us, please visit our contact us page for our contact details and pop us an email or give us a call. We can discuss your requirements and then prepare a quote for you. Once you are happy to go ahead we will write up a contract for us both to sign to protect both parties against cancellation. We’ve never cancelled on a client but always provide a contract for extra assurance. Once the contracts have been signed, the booking is confirmed. We will give you a courtesy call nearer the time of your event to confirm all the details but you are welcome to call us anytime if anything crops up that you need to ask about or change

How much does it cost to hire a band?

This depends largely on the date, the location and distance the band need to travel as well as the requirements of the band on the night. We are very competitively priced and our full package can save you the additional costs of hiring separate entertainers such as DJ’s and acoustic musicians.

Bands are expensive! What am I actually paying for?

Unfortunately it’s not a simple case of just splitting the fee evenly between band members! (We wish!) Okay, so we are only playing for a couple of hours…doesn’t seem like a lot. BUT our time onstage is only actually 10% of the time we are working as a band. The rest of the time we are booking gigs, preparing for them and liaising with clients, driving to them, setting up for them, waiting to play them, setting down for them and driving home in the early hours of the morning. This also includes Buying /replacing all our PA system and musical equipment, maintenance for our van, buying outfits, buying blow up guitars etc! Also, not to mention, choosing songs, learning songs, practising songs, more practising songs, rehearsing, creating and updating the website and Social Media, keeping the DJ and Karaoke Service up-to-date, Petrol Costs / Accommodation Costs / Marketing & Advertising costs….

You Get What You Pay For…

This is definitely the case when it comes to live music. Professional musicians will charge a reasonable fee taking all the above into consideration. If the band is cheap, they will most likely not have the experience or professionalism required to make sure your event runs smoothly. They may have played the best version of Summer of 69 that you ever heard at your Cousin Sam's Birthday but if something goes wrong on your Wedding Day will they have the skills and know-how to rectify it?!

Can we choose the songs that you’ll play?

We’re always happy to take our clients song choices into consideration but we are a working band and rehearsal time can often be limited. Have a look at our songlist page and you are welcome to pick your favourites from the list or we can use our ‘tried and tested’ set list to keep guests on the dance floor all night.

Will the band perform my first dance?

We can if the song is currently in our songlist and given enough notice we will try our best to learn your song for you. Alternatively, our singer has a repertoire of popular first dance songs which she can perform accompanied by a professional backing track or acoustic guitar at no further cost. Please have a look at our songlist page for our Acoustic Music. If your song is not currently listed please get in touch as we may still be able to accommodate your request.

What happens if a musician is ill or becomes unavailable?

Once we have an event booked, a professional musician will honour that date unless there are very exceptional circumstances. If the worst does happen, we have over 15 dep musicians who work closely with us to cover any unforeseen circumstances. Rest assured that they are of all the same high standard and know all of our songs just as well as the band do. Unlike many Function Bands out there, Boogie Street always uses the same band members - what you see is what you get!!

Do you have the required insurance venues require?

We have £5 million of public liability insurance. All equipment undergoes regular PAT testing too. Copies of our certificates are available on request. We carry an HK Actor P.A system and full lighting show. Any music you bring can be played through our sound system during the night.

Can I come and see you play?

Yes of course! We play at several public venues throughout the year which you are more than welcome to come along to. Have a look at our gig guide for when we are playing near you next. If we aren’t playing at a venue near you, please take a look at our video’s page where you can get an idea of our live shows.

Setting Up Time

We usually require around an hour and a half for load in and set up times, and it is preferred (although not essential) that the room is unoccupied for this time period while we set up and sound check all our equipment. This is for health and safety reasons and also it's better for the guests experience not to be subject to wailing guitar sounds and a lot of "1,2,1,2's" whilst trying to eat their pudding!

Food and Drink

We often travel for hours to get to venues, and don’t arrive home until 3 or 4 in the morning. For this reason we do ask for a meal if possible for each member of the band and soft drinks for the duration of stay at the venue. This doesn’t need to be expensive to you, as we don’t require the same food as your evening guests. We’re always happy to eat from the evening buffet or have a platter of sandwiches with some chips.

Changing facilities

We’ll always get changed for our performances so this is something that we ask for. Often venues have spare conference rooms or hotel rooms that aren’t being used - these are ideal. If this is not possible we can usually find a way round it.

What events have you done before?

We’ve played hundreds of weddings, loads of Corporate Functions, Private parties, Birthday Parties, Christmas Parties, New Years Eve Parties, Charity Events, Award Evenings, Annual Balls, Engagement Parties and Anniversaries, so don’t be afraid to ask! Have a look at our previous clients page for an idea

Can you perform outside?

As the UK weather is very unpredictable we require a gazebo or other covering to perform under as we use large amounts of expensive electrical items and also for the safety of the guests.

What will you wear at my event?

We'll always wear smart dress to fit in with your guests. For Weddings the men will wear shirt and tie. For our 70's/80’s tribute we wear costume outfits to fit the theme. If you have any special requirements we can usually tailor what we wear to your event.
